I'm back!

It's been a long while since I posted on the blog. It was when the corporate budget got hot and heavy at BCBSSC. It's finally over and I'm getting my life back.

And what a life - - arguing with Evan about homework, forcing Audrey to study....

But I'm glad we're through with the budget!

SLACKER!!!

WOW! What a slacker! I haven't blogged since August. That's about the same time the budget at Blue Cross began. Imagine.....my life came to a halt when that started.

Evan is now playing football, Audrey's with Dent's Volleyball team and recreation soccer has begun. Oh, how we love the fall.

It has finally started cooling off here in the south. It was only in the 70s today. Definite football weather.

Well, since the name of my blog is 'Laura'a Creations', I guess I need to get creating. Hopefully this weekend.

To all my friends who live in the Houston area, I'm glad you all are OK with minimal damage. Good luck!!

New School Year

Well, Richland 2 starts tomorrow. My kids are depressed because they have to go back to school. Evan is now going to Lonnie B. Nelson and Audrey is still at Dent Middle in the TWO Academy. I start back at Columbia College next Wednesday. I'm taking Biology - scary!!

Evan broke his hand on Saturday. It's his first broken bone. He's never had a stitch. The cast is bright orange and lime green (see picture).

My nephew, Ethan Deselem, was featured in an article in my hometown newspaper. He's quite the handsome one! I'm very proud of all my nieces and nephews, but it's very exciting when one is written about in the newspaper!! Here's the link: http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/high-schools/2008/08/21/sns082108tabnortheastern.html.

I hope everyone is well!

Evan turns 10!

My baby boy turned 10 yesterday! He's such a sweet boy, but can be mean as a snake. He had 6 boys spend the night (YIKES!). I, of course, left at 9pm and went to the movies. When I came home at midnight, they were all still awake.

We got up early and took the boys, Audrey and her friend Meredith to play paintball. In the matter of 2 1/2 hours, the 10 of them went through 6000 paintballs!

Tonight, we had a group from church over for horse races. We raised money for one of our members who had brain cancer. Not a lot money, but anything is better than none!

Dentsville American All-stars and Evan!

Win # 2 for the Dentsville American All-stars. Tonight's score was 14-6. We were up 4-0 then the Blythewood team tied it up. It made all us Mom's very nervous!

Again - Congratulations to the Chapin National All-stars and Tripp! They won again tonight, too. A bittersweet night for Tripp's dad, Steve and me! We now have at least 2 more games in the tournament, if not more.

Congratulations, Dentsville Americans!

Evan's all-star team (the Dentsville Americans) won their first tournament game tonight - 13-1! How awesome is that? Evan did a good job fielding, but the only time he got to bat, he struck out. There are interesting batting rules; very strange!

Also, congratulations to the Chapin Nationals and Tripp! They won 24 to 1.

Evan says......

'and the winner of the blog candy is.....Gidget!' Congratulations Gidget!! I'll get it to you as soon as possible!

A new kid at home

Hey! Our church (Living Springs Lutheran Church) has a group from Youth Encounter come in each year. This year, we have Capative Free East (http://www.youthencounter.org/Default.aspx?tabid=165)
at the church. James Mehring is staying with us this week. He's very talented; he sings, plays the guitar and plays the piano. He writes music, too. If you would like to hear him sing some of his songs, go to http://www.myspace.com/therealjamesmehring.

This will be a very busy week. With an extra person from Sunday-Friday to get ready and get to the church every day at 8:15. Then I have to pick up by 4:30pm. But this week of camp at the church is so enjoyable for Audrey and Evan! Then on Friday afternoon, Audrey will leave around 3pm for a weekend in Philadelphia. Lucky stiff! Poor Evan is upset, but we try to do special things with him while she's gone. We'll let him have a friend over on Saturday night.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Thanks to Beth Silaika at Freckled Fun Designs (http://www.freckledfundesigns.blogspot.com/) for designing my blog banner! I love it!! Thank you for working on it for me!!

Stampin' Up!'s Retirement List

Tomorrow (June 15th), the retirement list for the Spring/Summer Catalog comes out. I can't wait to see it. I need to set up some stamp camps for this summer! Hopefully, our scrapbook group will get together on Friday. I get more done when we're all together. I love being with friends, working and laughing!

Harry Grohman's funeral was today. His oldest son, Robert, gave a wonderful eulogy. It was tough, but he got through it. It was very eloquent and sounds like he's on his way to be a Lutheran Pastor. He would be great with the teenagers and could relate to them.

Tomorrow is Father's Day. Are you ready? Evan wants to go to WalMart and get some fishing lures for his day. The like to fish on vacation - whenever that will happen this year! Evan's on all-stars and could play baseball through July. YIKES! The beach is calling me!!!

Goodbye to a Dear Friend

This morning, I got a call from our friend, Trish. She was calling to let me know that a good friend, Harry Grohman, passed away on Tuesday night. Bob and I have known Harry and his wife, Brenda for many years. We have watched his children grow up and grandchildren come into the picture. We have spent many holidays with the Grohman's including July 4th, Memorial Day as well as numerous Super Bowl parties!

God be with you Harry as well as Brenda, Robert, Christian, Jonathon, Julie and the grandkids!

Our Ohio Trip

We're back from Ohio. It was a quick trip, but I saw my Mom, 3 sisters, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law and his wife. We got into Ohio on Thursday, my nephew Baylor's birthday. We went out for Mexican that night. When we were leaving my Mom's house, she said 'Is there any reason I need to take my purse?' Being the good child, I didn't say anything, but though 'NO! Just to pay for your dinner.' Of course, Bob and I paid. She thinks we're loaded. HA! Far from it!!

Friday, I went through one of my Mom's closet. I found 2 pairs of palooza pants from the 70s. My niece, Kelly, LOVED the turquoise, pink and green ones. She usually dresses all in black - goth. She decided to wear these to her graduation party. It was too funny! She looked great! You can tell she was having a good time at her party. Her friends really care about her, too. A lot of them came to the party. They played duck, duck, goose (yes, high school students) and cornhole (midwestern game). Bob and I cooked about 30
pounds of barbeque pork for the party, potato salad, macaroni salad, pasta salad. I hope everyone who came enjoyed it.

Evan helped clean the barn with Baylor and Ethan (my nephews). He also helped bale hay. He found out how hard it was to work on a farm. He smelled so badly the night he came home after cleaning the barn! YUCK! When we went to Richard and Karen's (Bob's brother and sister-in-law), he rode a 4 wheeler. All in all, Evan had a great time!

On the way home Monday, we stopped at the Longaberger factory in Dresden, Ohio. The factory is open and one can watch the baskets being made. The workers work FAST! We found out it's because they get paid by basket, not by the hour. Audrey and Evan each made a basket. Not many 12 and 9 year olds can say they made a Longaberger basket!
As much as we like seeing our family, we're very happy we're back home. I could've used a day off to catch up on my sleep, but went to work today. I'm exhausted!
Hopefully, I will start posting some crafts this week and not just blogging!

Back From Ohio

Bob, the kids and I went to Ohio on Thursday, June 5. My niece, Kelly, graduated from Northeastern High School. We had a great graduation party for her! I think she enjoyed the party.

On Friday, I was going through the closet in the room I sleep in at Mom's house. I found 2 pairs of 70s palooza pants. One was a gold, black, yellow and white paisley print. The other was turquoise blue, pink, lime green and white. Kelly LOVED the 2nd pair - which is funny because she dresses gothic style. Kelly found a black blouse to wear with the pants to her party! All her friends thought they were cute. here's a 'behind' picture of her in the pants! Kelly's friends truly love her and a lot of them came to the party. They were funny, playing 'duck, duck, goose' and cornhole (it's a midwestern game).

On the way back to South Carolina, we stopped at the Longaberger Factory in Dresden, Ohio. I was amazed, they let you go into the factory and watch them make the baskets from above. It was HOT in there! Audrey and I noticed how fast a lady was making a basket. We found out the workers are paid by basket, not by hour. Longaberger also has a 'make your own basket' area. Audrey and Evan each made a basket. They had a great time doing it.

Traveling to Mom's

We're on our way to Ohio for my niece's graduation. I'm writing in a hotel room outside of Bluefield, WV. It took 3 hotels to find one with a room! On a Wednesday night!!

My sisters and I haven't been all together for 5 years. We'll be together Saturday! I'm excited but think about all the work I could do in SC during these days off.

Audrey and Evan are very excited to see their cousins. My sister, Pam, has a 4-wheeler, a gator and a dirt bike. Plus steers, ducks, etc. Evan is looking forward to going to their house. I'm planning on going to Archiver's when I'm in Columbus tomorrow. I'm excited about that. And I hope to ride by the Longaberger factory to see the basket building.

Look for my new blog banner coming soon! I'm getting excited about making this a great blog!

Starting a New Blog

I decided to start a new blog with an address that's easier to remember. I'm hoping this will make it easy for my friends and family to keep up with what's going on in our lives. Plus I can share my crafting creations with everyone through this, too.

We've had a great, but uneventful Memorial Day. Bob and I worked on the yard and pool while the kids played. Audrey had a lot of studying to do, also. She has 3 finals tomorrow: Latin, Language Arts and PE. Wednesday she has Social Studies and Science and Thursday, she'll have Math. It's hard to believe she's almost done with 6th grade! She has loved being in the TWO Academy (single gender program) and has matured A LOT!

Evan has had a rough year. He's loved his teacher, but didn't have a child he 'clicked' with in his class. He hasn't wanted to work nor has he wanted to go to school. He loved taking golf lessons in the after-school program! And, of course, he loves playing baseball.

I need to get working on a couple of stamping swaps I'm in. As soon as I get them done, I'll put them on my post!

Have a great week!
